This is a very trippy picture in thumbnail - it looks like a Citroen-based pickup bed floating in space. Perspective makes the side lines of the hatch look like level lines relative to the back corners...

Yep! High beltlines and rear decks are so "in" but you can't see out.

I think the utility factor of many new vehicles has disappeared. Most all of the cars, trucks and SUV's have 4 doors. The long roofs are mostly SUV/crossovers and many full size trucks have a useless 5' bed.

it's all screwed up. What happened to having a full size wagon that would fit a sheet of plywood in it with the door closed?

Back in the early 80's, I worked for Ruby Vine/Railroad Salvage of Ct and would deliver furniture in my '77 Pinto hatchback after my shift. A sofa or loveseat would fit right inside the car, twin mattresses would slide right in and I could tie the bigger stuff to the roof. It was a great way to make a few extra bucks when I was a teen.

I think his daughter Roberta still has the store in West Haven running. Ruby had the lock on the weekends back in the 70's when he was closed Saturday and open Sundays. The only place open on Sundays because of the old Blue Laws. I remember going to Turners's Falls, Mass store with my parents as a kid and then as a young adult, I worked at the Hadley, Mass store for about 5 years becoming an assistant store manager. My grandparents loved that I worked for Ruby. In some ways, I miss that job. I can still remember some of the commercials. When we opened the Hadley store, all the employees had to go to the front of the store so the Christmas commercial could be filmed.
